Features or Marketing Gimicks?
The first thing we noticed was all the premium parts that Striker put in to these suits. If you've shopped or owned Striker ice fishing clothing in the past you knoow about their SureFloat insulation that, while not Coast Guard Approved, will keep you bouyant should you go through the ice or fall out of your boat. If not, watch the video here. The Striker suits have also always had a good cut, fit, and finish to them. But they've never really been a "premium" product like a Patagonia or Simms pieces has been in the past. Well, that's changed with the Apex Suits. The addition of the Primaloft® Gold Insulation with Cross Core™ insulation and their Heat Map™ Technology means this set will be lighter, warmer, and more fishable than any product on the market today.
What is PrimaLoft Gold with Crosscore?
PrimaLoft Gold is the best stand alone sythetic insulation in clothing. It has a clo value of .92 which is about the same as a 550 fill-power down. By itself PrimaLoft Gold is a great way to make a lightweight, breathable product; but when you add the Crosscore component, Aerogel, it takes the insulation to a whole new level. While Aerogel is the lightest solid(90%+ air), it's also can be made hydrophobic(repels water) and by including that with the already industry best Gold Insulation it makes the product even more breathable and even more efficient as a cold barrier without the bulk needed with normal insulation.
Using the PrimaLift Gold with Crosscore in the new Striker Apex Suit allows the suit to be thinner, lighter, more maneuverable, and warmer than any suit on the market.
Heat Map™ Technology
Because the PrimaLoft insulation is so efficient the risk is making the suit too warm. When you're drilling holes, pulling your house out, or just checking tip-ups you can generate too much heat. Using just enough insulation to keep the fresh air moving and keeping your natural temperature regulated is key to staying comfortable. When you're comfortable you will spend more time fishing. The HeatMap Technology from Striker puts reflective foil inside the garment in key places to reflect your natural body heat back into the garment. These critically placed zones allowed Striker to not over-use the PrimaLoft Insulation and moke the garment lighter and more flexible. In addition, the cross venting will allow you to expel any excess heat to get you back in your comfort zone and more fish in the bucket. |
SuperFabric
Another great addition that shows Striker really thought through the Apex Bibs is the addition of SuperMaterial in the knees of the bibs. SuperMaterial is the most abrasion & stain resistent fabric maker in the industry. The knees of these bibs will hold up to almost any abuse without failure and without giving up much flexibility or mobility. |
LineCutterz Zipper Pulls
A really handy new exclusive for 2021 Striker products in the ZipperPullz line cutter that replaces the factory zipper pull. It can cut braided line, monofilament, and fluorocarbon - right from your zipper. The surgical steel blades will cut mono, braid, or flouro with ease. |
C6-DWR
While not a huge feature, as almost all garments these days have some sort of Durable Water Repellant or DWR treatment to the fabric to repel moisture before it gets to the waterproof fabric, we really wanted to point out the Striker has moved to the better for the planet C6 version of the treatment. Most DWR treatments are C8 meaning they have 8 carbon molocules in the chain. These 8 (or higher) block don't break down as quickly and are more harmful to the environment. Those of us who get onto the lakes and into nature are some of the most respectful people of our environment. It's nice to see Striker making a move to a better product environmentally while still giving the waterproofing we need.
Pricing
This is a premium product. As you can imagine it has a premium price. Both the Jacket and the Bibs start at $449.99 retail and while this touches the upper end for an ice suit our feeling is that the features and quality you get in this suit justifies the price.
These will be available early fall 2021 in sizes S-3XL. If you have any questions feel free to send us a note or give us a call. For current inventory checkout our Striker Ice brand page.
